classes for mom

I started this year with a few classes of my own, instead of just driving the kids around. As you might remember, Mike surprised me with a sewing machine for Christmas that came with a few sewing classes. I had several in January learning how to use the machine and all it's fancy features including embroidery. Since then, I've gone once a month to a class to do a project. I used a free motion foot, did my first zipper, learned how to do pin tucks and much more. It's been fun.

I balanced the sewing skills with an emergency preparedness class. I graduated from an 7 week CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training and am now a Disaster Service Worker. I learned things like cribbing to move 8000 lb. cement slabs, disaster medical triage, search and rescue, fire suppression, and how to be an Incident Commander.

I sprinkled in some neurology and parenting lectures to round things out.

I'm really impressed Rachel. It must have been a challenging thing to learn, and scary to think you might have to use what you've learned. It's really great that you've stepped forward to be a resource for your community if it's ever needed. Well done!
Love, Mickie
