the alhambra
Friday morning, Mike and I toured the Alhambra. It's a large area on a hill that was originally a fortress and palace of the Moors beginning in the late 700's. The Christians added on in the 1400's when they took over. But the original architecture is the best preserved Islamic architecture from that time period in the world. The palace contains beautiful details on all surfaces. The Alhambra consists of 4 main areas, the palace, the fortress part, the Generalife and another area. The Generalife contains gardens and water features. One water feature has water running down a trough in the handles of several flights of stairs. Water was also running in stone gutters along the streets in the Alhambra and in parts of Granada.
