Elise surprised us with her choice of instrument for 5th grade band. She was able to try them all (flute, clarinet, trumpet and trombone, but not saxophone) at a friend's house. She chose not to follow in her mother's footsteps to play cello or her father's to play saxophone. She picked trombone! She and Mike went to the music store last night and purchased her new instrument. My reservations are that trombone is considered a "loud" instrument and it is about as big as she is. But those can easily be overcome with her newly founded determination and excitement.

My brother is a trombonist--and yes, they are loud and heavy and your lips get sore! But that's really impressive that she'd be up for it. Enjoy!
