waldon pond

On our way from Vermont to Massachusetts we passed through a few small towns where some of our ancestors had settled. We didn't have time to stop and delve in, but we had pleasant drive-bys. After staying in Marlborough, Massachusetts, we hit Waldon Pond. It wasn't the peaceful retreat of Thoreau's day. There were lots of swimmers and families on the beach, including a friend who used to live in California. Small world.

There is a small replica of the cabin Thoreau lived in and a life size statue of him. He was a small man.
