For FHE one evening, we decided to work on our problem solving skills. Important ground rules were: approach with an attitude of goodwill, invite the Holy Ghost, don't give up, and don't be afraid of strong feelings, but stay respectful. Then we went through the seven steps. 1. Agree on the definition of the problem. 2. Everyone has the opportunity to speak until they are finished. 3. Review and revise the definition of the problem if needed. 4. Brainstorm possible solutions, even crazy ones. 5. Agree on a solution. 6. Assign everyone a job. 7. Reevaluate as a family. We chose to focus on issues with Sadie and Andrew's room, and brainstormed tons of solutions, some realistic, others less so. The final decision was to re-arrange their room by moving their bed. Elise's job was the photographer, Sadie and Andrew's job was clean things from under the bed and from where it was going to go, and Emma's job was to research room dividers on the web. Dad's job was to move the bed, and Mom's was to assist. We unearthed many hidden treasures.
